Indicator: GNI, PPP (constant 2021 international $) - Ranking   2024

Description The “GNI, PPP (constant 2021 international $)” indicator, published by the World Bank, measures gross national income (GNI) in constant international dollars, converted using purchasing power parities (PPPs). GNI represents the total income earned by all residents within an economic territory during an accounting period and is equal to GDP plus income received from abroad minus income paid abroad. PPPs convert national currencies into a common unit while accounting for differences in price levels between countries, making PPP-based comparisons more appropriate for analyzing economic output and average material well-being than comparisons based on market exchange rates. The indicator is expressed in constant 2021 prices, meaning that the series has been adjusted for price changes over time, with 2021 as the reference year. The PPP conversion factor acts both as a currency conversion factor and a spatial price deflator, allowing differences in purchasing power between countries to be taken into account.
A cosa serve The indicator is used to analyze changes in real GNI and compare the economic scale of countries on a purchasing-power-adjusted basis. It can be employed to study long-term economic growth, differences in national income, and changes in the material resources available to populations. When divided by population, it provides the basis for GNI per capita, PPP, in constant 2021 international dollars, which is particularly useful for comparing changes in average real income across countries and over time. Because the series is expressed in constant prices, variations between years primarily reflect changes in the volume of national income rather than inflation.
