Indicator: GNI (current LCU) - Ranking   2024

Description The GNI (current LCU) indicator, published by the World Bank, measures the total income earned by all residents within an economic territory during a given accounting period. Gross national income (GNI) is calculated as gross domestic product (GDP) plus income received from abroad minus income paid to abroad. Unlike GDP, which measures economic production within a country’s borders, GNI focuses on the income accruing to the country’s residents, including income flows associated with international economic activity. The indicator is expressed in current prices and local currency units (LCU), meaning that no adjustment is made for changes in prices over time.
A cosa serve The indicator is used to measure and analyze the aggregate income accruing to a country’s residents and to examine the relationship between domestic production and international income flows. It can support analyses of national economic performance, income generation, and the economic effects of a country's financial and productive links with the rest of the world. When combined with population data, GNI can also be used to calculate GNI per capita, an important measure for international economic comparisons and for classifying economies according to income levels. For comparisons across countries, however, GNI expressed in local currency generally needs to be converted using appropriate exchange rates or purchasing power parity (PPP) measures.
