Indicator: Manufacturing, value added (current US$) - Ranking   2024

Description Manufacturing, value added (current US$) measures the economic value generated by the manufacturing sector after deducting the value of intermediate goods and services used in the production process from the total value of manufacturing output. According to the World Bank, manufacturing includes industries classified under ISIC (Rev. 3), major division C, and refers to the physical or chemical transformation of materials or components into new products. The indicator is expressed in current US dollars, meaning that the values are not adjusted for changes in prices over time. Consequently, variations in the indicator may reflect both changes in the volume of manufacturing activity and changes in prices or exchange rates.
A cosa serve The indicator is used to measure and compare the nominal size of manufacturing value added across countries and years. It supports analyses of industrial structure, manufacturing development and the contribution of industry to national economic activity. It can also be used to identify countries with large manufacturing sectors in absolute monetary terms and to examine changes in their nominal manufacturing output. For analyses of real growth over time, however, constant-price measures of manufacturing value added are generally more appropriate because they remove the effect of price changes.
