Description Imports of goods and services (BoP, current US$) measures the value of goods and services acquired by residents of an economy from non-residents, as recorded in the Balance of Payments (BoP). Imports of goods include changes in the economic ownership of goods from non-residents to residents, irrespective of whether the goods physically cross national borders. Therefore, variations in its value may reflect changes in import volumes, prices, and exchange rates.
A cosa serve The indicator is used to analyse import dynamics, international trade patterns, and the external position of an economy. It can be used to monitor changes in expenditure on foreign goods and services and to assess the role of imports in domestic economic activity. When combined with exports, the trade balance, GDP, and exchange-rate indicators, it helps analyse trade imbalances, external dependence, and the evolution of a country's international economic relationships.
