Indicator: Manufacturing, value added (annual % growth) - Ranking   2024

Description The Manufacturing, value added (annual % growth) indicator measures the annual percentage change in the real value added generated by manufacturing activities. According to the World Bank, manufacturing includes industries classified in ISIC (Rev. 3) major division C and refers to the physical or chemical transformation of materials or components into new products. Value added represents the contribution of manufacturing to the economy and is calculated as the total value of output produced minus the value of intermediate goods and services used in production. The indicator measures the percentage change from one year to the previous year in the value-added series expressed in constant 2015 U.S. dollars, thereby focusing on changes in real manufacturing activity rather than changes in prices.
A cosa serve The indicator is used to monitor manufacturing growth, contractions, and changes in industrial activity. It can help identify periods of expansion, slowdown, or decline in manufacturing and contribute to the analysis of industrialisation, economic cycles, and structural transformation. When combined with indicators such as manufacturing employment, productivity, investment, exports, and the manufacturing share of GDP, it provides a broader framework for assessing the role and evolution of manufacturing within an economy.
