Indicator: Manufacturing, value added (constant 2015 US$) - Ranking   2024

Description Manufacturing, value added (constant 2015 US$) measures the economic value generated by the manufacturing sector after subtracting the value of intermediate goods and services used in production from the total value of manufacturing output. According to the World Bank, manufacturing comprises industries classified under ISIC (Rev. 3), major division C, covering the physical or chemical transformation of materials and components into new products. The indicator is expressed in constant 2015 US dollars, meaning that the data are adjusted for changes in prices over time, with 2015 used as the reference year. This allows changes in manufacturing value added to be interpreted primarily in terms of changes in the volume of economic activity rather than inflation.
A cosa serve The indicator is used to monitor and compare the real size and evolution of manufacturing activity across countries and over time. It can support analyses of industrial development, economic structural transformation and changes in productive capacity. It is also useful for examining the role of manufacturing in economic growth and for comparing the performance of manufacturing sectors internationally, provided that differences in country size and population are taken into account. Unlike a percentage-of-GDP indicator, this measure focuses on the absolute amount of value added generated by manufacturing, expressed in constant 2015 US dollars.
