Indicator: Listed domestic companies - Ranking   2025

Description The Listed Domestic Companies indicator measures the number of domestic companies whose shares are listed on a stock exchange at the end of the year. It includes foreign companies that are exclusively listed on the domestic exchange, while excluding investment funds, unit trusts, and companies whose sole purpose is to hold shares in other listed companies, such as holding or investment companies. A company with multiple classes of shares is counted only once. The indicator includes only companies formally admitted to listing on the exchange.
A cosa serve The indicator is used to monitor the development of domestic stock markets and compare the scale of listed corporate sectors across countries and over time. It can support analysis of capital-market development, corporate access to equity financing and the evolution of formal securities markets. Changes in the number of listed companies may reflect new listings, mergers, delistings, changes in corporate structure or broader developments in financial-market regulation and conditions.
Interpretation: A higher value indicates a greater number of companies admitted to listing on the stock exchange, while a lower value indicates a smaller listed corporate sector. The indicator measures the number of listed companies, not their economic size, market value or contribution to overall stock-market activity.
