Indicator: Agriculture, forestry, and fishing, value added (current US$) - Ranking   2024

Description The Agriculture, forestry, and fishing, value added (current US$) indicator, published by the World Bank, measures the contribution of agriculture, forestry, and fishing to a country’s economy in monetary terms. The sector corresponds to ISIC (Rev. 4) divisions 01–03 and includes the exploitation of vegetal and animal natural resources, covering crop cultivation, animal production and breeding, timber harvesting, and the collection of plants, animals, and other animal products from farms or natural habitats. Value added is calculated as the total value of output minus the value of intermediate goods and services used in production. The indicator is expressed in current U.S. dollars, meaning that the values are not adjusted for inflation or changes in prices over time.
A cosa serve The indicator is used to analyze the economic importance of agriculture, forestry, and fishing, support comparisons between countries, and monitor changes in the value generated by these activities over time. It can contribute to assessments of economic structure, natural-resource-based production, rural economies, and the role of the primary sector in national development. When combined with indicators such as GDP, population, or sectoral employment, it can also help evaluate the relative importance of the sector within the broader economy. For analyses of real growth in productive activity, however, constant-price or percentage-growth indicators are more appropriate because this measure does not remove the effects of inflation and other price changes.
